Om Namo Bhagavate Sivanandaya!

Namaste!

Today (Sept. 8) is the holy occasion of worshipful Holy Master Sri

Swami Sivanandaji's 115th birthday anniversary. In celebration of

this occasion we uploaded a chapter from Sri N. Ananthanarayanan's

book "From Man to God-Man". The chapter that we have uploaded is on

the inspiring personality of the Master. This is at:

http://www.SivanandaDlshq.org/saints/sivaperson.htm

We are also happy to announce that photographs from Gurudev's

birthday celebration at the sacred Samadhi Shrine of Gurudev at

Sivananda Ashram, Rishikesh which were just taken a few hours ago

have already been posted by Sri Anilji at:

http://www.dlsmd.org/album/sivananda/gurudevsbirthday.htm

We attach below a wonderful poem on Gurudev by Kaviratna Sri

Samananda which was composed for Gurudev's 60th birthday.

Yours in the service of Gurudev,

Pannirselvam

Siva's Sixty Summers

By Kaviratna Sri Samananda, Madras.

The rushing river, Tambraparani,

Where washes the feet of a hamlet,

There Pattamadai with milk and honey

In Tinnevelley, is set.

In wealth and verdure, corns and barns,

Its name is green in fame,

For cattle, nuts and mats and yarns,

They count at once her name.

Sixty summers back, one morning

An Angel babe was born

To Venguiyer's wife and darling,

Of evil passions shorn.

The village elders gathered round

And gazed and smiled and blessed,

And swore aloud, with reasons sound,

That the boy was God-possessed.

Years rolled on and a stalwart youth

Our hero grew to be

In sports and strength and arts that soothe

He shined like a red Ruby!

Crowned and flagged with honours many

He stepped into manly life;

A full-blown Doctor healing many,

Saving a thousand life.

>From South of India he spread his wings

To the eastern shores away.

Lo! A saintly surgeon brings

Fresh breath to sick Malay!

In East his life was a long vigil

Against all evil stirrings

That rise in human mind and still

The note that Conscience rings.

A storm then swept across his way

And blew away bright jewels

Of wife, wealth, son and mundane day,

And showed life's empty revels!

With a Lion's heart and a stoic head

Our hero steered away

To the land of Buddha, willed to tread

The thorny Yogic way,

In northern range of Himavat's groves

He flung his frame in penance

Quickly he crossed all worldly grooves

And reached pure Immanence.

Preaching holy life by living,

Teaching, writing a lot,

Singing divine name and stirring--

He wipes the evil blot.

Budding in South and bloomed in East

And blown awhite in North

This holy flower charmed the West

Spreading its sweetsome Worth

Sixty summers have stood in witness

To the mounting might of Siva's Soul;

Sixty summers more shall witness

This Buddha's broad expanding Goal!

The D. L. S. a divine home

Of best and blest of men

Sing his glory from Prome to Rome

To the winds of oceans seven!

>From South to East and East to North

This surging Soul was hurled,

Now static from his throne in North,

He conquered West and World
