Guest guest
Namaste, Sri Chilukuri Bhunvaneswar, and thank you for your gracious welcome. When I was in England I taught English language and Literature, and Drama, to secondary school pupils (aged 12-16) and my degree is actually in Philosophy and Psychology, thus I fear I am no expert when it comes to linguistics; however, I am interested in what you suggest in your post, though unsure exactly what that is! Please tell me more. Best wishes, Grant.
Guest guest
Hi Sadananda-ji, You wrote: <<Shree Dennis Waite, member of this group, is completing a book on Advaita along a similar lines if I recall the version he showed me.>> My comment has to be: "????". I'm afraid I did not even understand Grant's statement. The book I wrote is actually a straight presentation (though in a modern and readable style) of the teaching of Advaita, traditional and Direct Path, summarising the philosophy and the various 'paths' by which its principles may be followed. Nothing about linguistics - sorry! Regards, Dennis
Guest guest
My dear noble devotee of Sri Sankara Bhagavatpujyapada, Thank you very much for your kind reply. I am really very happy to know that you have specialized in psychology and philosophy.I am not a specialist in any one of them , in any thing. Anyhow , by a curious twist of events leading from horses to equine folklore to proverbs to linguistics to advaita,I am now looking seriosly for people who are interested in language to share my views and help me to learn more about what I am doing. I DO NOT WANT TO GUIDE ANYONE AND THAT IS NOT THE PURPOSE FOR WHICH I HAVE JOINED THIS GROUP. I want to find out answers for the following questions to account for the structure of proverbs in conversation and the reason for their very occurrence in the conversation at all: 1.Why do we speak the way we speak,i.e.,what are the factors that bring about the variation in our thought process and speech? 2.What is the real function of language in the overall design of creation? 3.What is the inter-relationship between the different types of action:mental, physical and vocal ? In this connection ,I will be very grateful to you if you could kindly help me in collecting conversational exchanges in English in which proverbs occur in real life situations. This is possible if you or your friends with whom you converse use proverbs in conversation. I did it in my mother tongue Telugu and I want to cross-check with other languages. I believe that in the process of analysing them we go to the very roots of advaita and the theory of creation.Language is the only medium that can take us to the limits and beyond the domain of mind - to that by which all this is created. I hope I have submitted my case to you briefly but for a start it is enough.
