Guest guest
While enjoying the discussions, here is my understanding of secret of secrets. 1. Secret is that which is not known to the other but can become known when it is revealed to the listener. This is not that kind of secret that can be communicated by telling to the listener. Since it is something that is so 'self-evident' but yet is not known by the listener, even if the speaker tells, it is not likely that the secret is unraveled by the listener. It is in that sense a super secret since it opposes the normal knowledge that one knows about one self and is not ready to belief the speaker if he tells you are not what you think you are- limited time-wise, space-wise and object-wise. Hence it is supreme secret that a particular frame of mind is needed to unravel the secret - since it is hidden from all the means (pramaaNa) of knowledge available to the listener. This also justifies why it is vij~naana and not just j~naana. 2. It is supreme secret since normal means of knowledge - pratyaksha, anumaan and shaastra (shaastra can only give j~naana) is not available to unravel this secret. Hence it is also called 'aprameyam'. No pramaaNa is valid for a self-evident fact. 3. It is also supreme secret since this is a very restricted knowledge since as Krishna pointed out in 7th Ch. - manushyaanam sahasreshuu... Of the thousands of people only very few are make an effort to know this. Here the secrecy is not due to topic being secret but the mind of the listener is not ready to accept the truth. Unlike the other secrets where the secrecy is related to lack of information or lack of the direct knowledge of the object of secrecy, hear the due to lack of the mind free from impurities. These aspects are emphasized again and again by Krishna in the 7th Ch. as Saraswati brought to our attention. Related to sad guNa and saguNa - Sri Panduranga is in fact ardent teacher of Madhva philosophy - the school was established in Bangalore by Pejaawar Mutt. Shree Gururaj, who was staying with me in Madras was his student, before he became a Jr. Swami of Pejaawar mutt. SaguNa with emphasis on auspicious qualities - sadguNa and nirguna with lack of inauspicious qualities is the running theme of dwaita and vishishhTaadvaita doctrines.
