Guest guest
Namaste Sunderji, none can beat you! Yes, you are right. M-Theory and D-Branes are gobbling up the ten-year old ideas of string theory. All these form part of the latter half of the book I was listing. There are actually five string theories and all these are expected to be unified by M–Theory which in addition also unifies what is called 11-dimensional supergravity theory. Strings were thought to be one-dimensional, but later they found that the fundamental ingredient could as well be two-dimensional membranes but now they have increased the dimensions up to nine. The corresponding extended objects are called 3–branes, 4-branes and so on. Well, let us not put the cart before the horse. And let us also not frighten the non-specialist and make him run away. In fact all my life I have been advocating, from various platforms, -- my Presidential address as President of the Indian Mathematical Society in the early seventies, my Presidential address as President of the Mathematics Section of the Indian Science Congress in late nineties and so on – that expository writing in Science, particularly Mathematics, must find takers from the highest echelons of research. But there are very few (good and substantial) expository books and authors in science and even fewer in those areas of science that require deep mathematics. As a consequence, subjects like string theory have very few expositors, almost none. The website that you referred to, Sunderji, and many other books that I know of, are all so technical that they repel even the interested lay reader! It is in this context I was appreciative of Brian Greene’s book: The Elegant Universe (Vintage, 1999). It is written in such a wonderfully enjoyable racy style that laymen who are not averse to science as well as scholars like Sadanandaji can equally benefit from the book. Sadanandaji, I will not say the book is non-mathematical, but it is readable without a note-book on hand. It is as highly readable as your explanation on savikalpa and nirvikalpa! I shall wait until I finish reading the book and then I expect to come back on this list with a post on the subject. praNAms to all advaitins profvk ===== Prof. V. Guest guest
Namaste, Its enligtening to read such great articles. While reading the string theory and nivikalpa samadhi, i felt some similarities... both stages manifest amidst the flow of highest energies...super string remains the root state which can answer the million variations of objects and energies on this earth... same as the nirvikalpa state which is the true root state where from the dance of the million life forms is visible... Pranams to the great souls that are striving to know the brahmam! Srini Veerasakthi Faith Hill - Exclusive Performances, Videos, & more faith.
