Just chanting the AUM from your belly till ending it between the eyebrows (ajna chakra), can take around 30 seconds. The more one can prolong the chant they feel gayathri as a vibration, the shorter the duration one feels it as a mantra....both are right.. once upon a time i remember the days when i complete 3 gayathri in 18 seconds... i had my own justifications and theories supporting the importance of count... i definitely feel i evolved. ========== >should be 'as it were' at the tip of the nose, and not really. >The purpose, he says, is to.... ===== The understanding of the purpose depends on ones limitations or prejudice...In the early state of practice many gaze at the idols of gods in a temple or a spot at a distance. once the yoga matures gazing the nose tip and between the eyebrows will help...japa is also the one of the best ways to start... For example, gauging oneself on 'saattvik' qualities in 12 areas [aahaara, karma, jnana, dhriti, etc.]; daivi sampat qualities that need attention; 'imperatives' - such as 'muktasa.ngaH samaachara' 'nimittamaatraM bhava savyasaachin', etc. One can call these 'meditations' in action, to achieve 'naishhkarmya -siddhi'. Guest guest
Namaste, When we finally learn to chant the Gayatri properly, we should not experience any time at all. Sri Ramakrishna used to say, Sandhya ends in Gayatri, Gayatri in Om and Om in Samadhi. So the experience of timelessness (so to say) is the essence of Nama Japa.
