Guest guest
Namaste This is actually Sadanandaji's post in response to my post #15373. He wrote to me personally (because of some mail failure from India). But I feel it will be useful to the general reader. ----------------------- --- "V. Krishnamurthy" <profvk wrote: > > Whatever is the cause or the effect should be regarded as the inert matter” (I do not quite comprehend the inclusion of the words ‘the cause or’ in this last sentence. I am happy with the sentence without these three words! -- VK) >> --------- The way I understand - Every effect must have a cause and when effect is recognized by the consciouness (or more correctly in the consciousness) and the cause for that effect can be sought after and can be recognized again by the consciousness (or in the consciousness). That which are illumined by consciosness - both the effect and the cause as well as the birth of the time which relates to the temporal and spacial gap between the cause and effect - all come under jadam since they are illumined by something other than by themselves (anya adhiina prakaashatvam tat jadam). Hence Vidyaranya says both cause and effect are jadam in the consciousness. ------------- > > “By the whole of that inert matter the self-luminous Consciousness is veiled. By Consciousness thus veiled, both itself and the inert matter shine forth, just as both the moon and Rahu – the shadow eclipsing it" >> I would have preferred an inclusion of the word "as though it is veiled" - since even the veiling is seen through the consciosness only. Sometime language gets cumbersome and may give wrong meaning to those who are not tuned.
