Guest guest
I have just been updating my website (www.advaita.org.uk) to provide details of recommended books in the categories of classical scriptures, modern teachers, Western philosophy and other non-dual philosophies. I would much appreciate it if others could have a look and perhaps provide some input of other books that you feel ought to be there (author, title and appropriate words to indicate why others should read it). I would also like to add another page of Advaita in fiction, novels etc. but the only one I can think of is 'The Razors Edge' by Somerset Maugham. Possibly Hesse's 'Sidharta' might qualify or 'Glass Bead Game'. Any ideas from anyone? Dennis

Guest guest
Dear Dennis, How about Jonathan Livingston Seagull By 'Thingummy' Bach with his instant flight which he seeks at the feet of his teacher? A limited offering I am afraid but that was the first response, Best wishes Ken Mail Plus - Powerful. Affordable. Sign up now. http://mailplus. Guest guest
---Hello Dennis, Some titles to add to your list The Collected Works of Ramana Maharshi ed.Arthur Osbourne. Tripura Rahasya. (recommended by Bhagavan Ramana and pub. by Ramanaashram) Outlines of Indian Philosophy by M. Hiriyanna Autobiography of a Yogi by Yogananda.(Jaico pub.) Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna by M. (The spiritual Boswell to the great Paramahansa) It contains what is surely the earliest and perhaps the only photograph of a man in Samadhi 21.9.1879. Sri Ramakrishna The Great Master by Swami Saradananda (2Vols) In Search of God by Poppa Ramdas (power of japa/Ram mantra, mendicant adventures all over India)Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan) Methods of Knowledge by Swami Satprakashananda publ.Advaita Ashrama. (This mirrors the Vedanta Paribhasa of Advharindra also published by Advaita Ashrama.) Atma Bodha is also published by Sri Ramakrishna Math trans.(Swami Nikhilananda) with copious notes and a very long introduction on Hindu Cosmology, Asramas and Realisation. Very Useful. The Upanisads. There is the two vol. 8 Upanisads trans. Swami Gambhirananda with Shankaracarya's comm. Advaita Ashrama.Staying with that publisher ensures a coherent treatment and uniform technical usage Gita. I like the Gorakphur Press translation II.62: The man dwelling on sense objects develops attachment for them; from attachment springs up desire, and from desire (unfulfilled) ensues anger. 63: From anger arises infatuation; from infatuation, confusion of memory; from confusion of memory, loss of reason; and from loss of reason one goes to complete ruin. Novels: All About H.Hatterr by G.V.Desani (unclassifiable folly and soverign remedy for head heaviness) Ciao and Blessings, Michael In advaitin, "Dennis Waite" <dwaite@a...> wrote: > Thanks to Prof VK and Ken for their suggestions. Guest guest
Thanks, Michael! I've added most of your excellent references to the lists. I've left out those I couldn't locate anywhere (out of print). Please come back if you are not happy with the comments. Any more suggestions still appreciated. www.advaita.org.uk/resources3.htm - scriptures www.advaita.org.uk/resources4.htm - modern sages etc. www.advaita.org.uk/resources5.htm - Western philsophy www.advaita.org.uk/resources6.htm - Other non-dual philosophies www.advaita.org.uk/resources7.htm - Novels and poetry Dennis
