Guest guest
Namaste: You have raised a valid question and incidently the answer is submerged within your question! If I have the strong conviction that "God Alone Exists" then the question "Why?" shouldn't arise! Our problem is that we pretend that we have the strong conviction but allow our mind to wander wherever it wants to go. In Bhagavad Gita, Lord Krishna calls the person with the stable mind as 'Stithaprajna' and chapter 2, verses 55 to 72 describes the characteristics of that Perfect Yogi. Arjuna who represents all of us with the confused state of mind had a dialog with the Lord to clear our mind filled with doubts. The entire Gita contains the complete answer to your question with great details. In chapter 18, verse 66 the Lord provides the following instruction: sarvadharmaanparityajya maamekaM sharaNaM vraja . ahaM tvaaM sarvapaapebhyo mokshyayishhyaami maa shuchaH Resigning all your duties to me, the all-powerful and all supporting Lord, take refuge in me alone. I shall absolve you of all sins; worry not. Implicitly the Lord tells us that we have no separate existence and we don't need to struggle by making toilsome efforts for liberation. Also in chapter 18, verses 72 and 73: Bhagwan uvaacha: kach{}chidetach{}chhrutaM paartha tvayaikaagreNa chetasaa . kach{}chidaGYaanasaMmohaH pranashhTaste dhana.njaya .. 18\.72.. arjuna uvaacha: nashhTo mohaH smR^itirlabdhaa tvatprasaadaanmayaa.achyuta . sthito.asmi gatasa.ndehaH karishhye vachanaM tava .. 18\.73.. Lord asks Arjuna the question: Have you heard this gospel of the Gita with one-pointed mind, Arjuna? and has your delusion, born of ignorance melted away, O conquerer of riches? Arjuna said : Krishna, by your grace my delusion has fled and wisdom has been gained by me. I stand shron of all doubts. Now I have strong conviction and will follow your guidance. In conclusion, it seems that we have to wait until mind becomes stable with the conviction that God alone exists! Guest guest
Dear Ram Chandran, Could you please tell me which edition of the Bhagavadgita yuo are utilizing. There are so many around and all with different connotations. With many thanks, carlo PS is the Nonduality group the same as the Advaitin one or do the two mailing lists/coordinators differ? Guest guest
Namaste: What I have provided in my posting was just translation of the verse without any commentary. Of the many books that are available, I like Dr. Radhakrishnan's book, Bhagavad Gita (available at many book stores around the world and online. This book provides good translation and and a balanced commentary with appropriate references from the Upanishads. Another book suitable for western audience is Easwaran's book, Bhagavad Gita and he provides insights (not verse by verse translation). For greater detailed discussion on 'Stithaprajna' (Stable mind, I suggest that you can access my website: http://www.geocities.com/gitasatsang/Sthitaprajna.html The entire discussion is also available in the list archives. Warmest regards, Ram Chandran Note: When you reply your posts, please include only the most appropriate portion of the article that you are replying. advaitin, Carlo Frua <cfda@s...> wrote: > Could you please tell me which edition of the Bhagavadgita yuo are utilizing. > > carlo
