Matchless power of human mind

CHENNAI MARCH 1. The power of human mind is matchless since precious

and virtuous thoughts originate from it. Anyone who has conquered the

mind can achieve any mighty task but this is indeed a tough exercise.

Scriptures point out how it is responsible for both bondage and

liberation. Bliss will elude him if a person is not able to exercise

control over it and make it his slave. Taming it one should develop

human values. For the youth in particular, cultivation of virtues is

of paramount importance. Students do excel in various fields but they

do not take efforts to understand this fundamental principle of

filling their hearts with noble feelings.

Holy texts abound with several legendary characters who had acquired

enormous physical and mental strength but their hearts were full of

vicious thoughts. If a person loses his wealth, it may be possible

for him to acquire it again; so too, he can regain his health through

a doctor, but if human values are lost, life itself will become a

waste. The Bharatiya culture declares that there is no Dharma greater

than adherence to Truth and virtue, said Sri Sathya Sai Baba in a

lecture asking students to develop Divine feelings and a steady mind.

The real purpose of education is to endow them with noble thoughts

and deeds.

In the Upanishads man is addressed as the son of immortality. This is

the real "degree" a student should obtain. Other academic

distinctions will pale into insignificance when he retains love and

truth in the firmament of his heart. Another important aspect, which

everyone should remember is to have faith in God. Real wealth is

inside a person. A seed grows into a huge tree and yields fruits and

flowers. Likewise when a man sows a seed of a sacred thought in the

field of his heart, it will surely grow into a gigantic tree of

spiritual power and give the fruits of peace and bliss. Unfortunately

modern man does not have this faith. Many may wonder as to what this

faith means. Spurred by righteousness, faith and love spring from the

heart and are effervescent and all pervading like air. Man is the

repository of powers, is courageous valorous and sagacious. Today's

need for man is to think positively. "Fill your heart with Divine

love; suffuse it with Truth; undertake sacred activities with

dedication; lead an ideal life, setting an example for others to

emulate."
