Guest guest
Namaste: In a recent post Sri Benjamin has made the following statement: " So the only question is, do we need an Ishwara for the original big bang and soup of subatomic particles? I believe the answer is yes, but not so much as some kind of engineer or designer, but rather simply because the existence of ANYTHING is a miracle. Pure existence alone is a miracle that must constantly be sustained by something like Ishwara. That's the basic reason as I see it." Sri Benjamin's statement is quite useful and it needs some expansion as further clarification and understanding. First, if everything that happens or bound to happen can be explained scientifically, then the question of God will not arise. The question of God arises when scientific explanations become incomplete. The statement, 'religion starts when science ends' is quite appropriate and valid. The fall of rain, flow of air, light of sun, flashing stars, space of earth, etc. were considered miracles attributed to God. With the advance of science, scientists were to explain the miracles and force the religious minds to accept the facts of nature. There is still one outstanding question that remains (will always remain) unresolved - Can Science explain everything that happens in the universe without an epsilon of doubt? The answer is an emphatic no? The Hindu concept of 'Ishwara' doesn't contradict any scientific truth and at the same time no science can challenge the descriptions Ishwara stated in Gita and other scriptures. One of the significant problem is that 'perception of Ishwara' solely depends on the perceiver and his/her attributable characteristics. All that advaita declares is that Brahman has a address label Ishwara to facilitate His recognition! Warmest regards, Ram Chandran
