The message seems to be: suicidal bike riding provides oceanic mystical experience. That's also why they climb Everest. Well, I guess it's great for your health until the day you smash into something. Please be careful. ============== Hi Benjamin, Well, riding the bike is pretty nice in cycling terms too, not just for the mystical stuff. About being safe -- each year I get older and stiffer and slower, and so do my buds. So I have to take the body into consideration, stretch and massage more, etc. I'd like to keep on riding, and find myself doing what's necessary to do it. I am not afraid to crash or die, but I do have a family! I figure I could have another 20 years of riding if I'm careful. Today I met a track rider who'd been riding for 35 years, still at it. My skating teacher is still skating, and he turned 70 this April. Benjamin: Anyhow, here's a silly prejudice of mine which perhaps reveals my inane side. Reading that you had gone to Berkeley and studied philosophy, I somehow imagined you as spaced-out, with long hair, and hardly one to hang out with those no-nonsense street dudes. Just goes to show... G: Yeah, just goes to show the value of preconceptions! BTW, I didn't go to UC Berkeley. I went to University of Rochester, where I studied George Berkeley. Before that I was in the military, but was an anarcho-capitalist at the time. Closer to individualist right-wing than left wing. UC Berkeley is cool, some day I'll visit it! Ben: Ramana was a boxer in his youth. Not all spiritual types are gentle and sedentary. G: Ramesh was a bodybuilder.... Ben: Good luck and Hari Om! Thanks and same to you! --Greg

Came back from the mountains today and saw your bike pic. My 45 year old track bike is in the garage but the bike picture posted was taken 13 years ago on my 50th. birthday and was a challenge ride/climb with my 16 year old son. As my right shoulder had been broken a few weeks before the bike had to be carried on the the left. In case this one needs to be deleted I have been greedy and posted a second, more appropriate maybe, from the top of Arunachala five years ago. Better get some scripture in so maybe this is appropriate: Gita18.61: 'The Lord dwells in the hearts of all beings, O Arjuna, and by his Maya causes all beings to revolve as though mounted on a machine.'
