Guest guest
Namaste all! Regarding our discussion of Buddhism vs. Vedanta... Here, for your interest, is a brief review of a scholarly book on how Buddhism arose: http://jbe.gold.ac.uk/4/bodhi1.html The author argues for how Buddhism was a reaction to Brahmanism, not just in terms of sacrifices, but also in terms of basic concepts, such as Self, etc. I don't agree with him, but this is an example of how scholars find fundamental distinctions between the two religions. I think that they 'fail to see the forest for the trees'. I will go on naively and innocently believing that the two religions, in their best exemplars, have achieved a similar if not identical realization of 'Pure Consciousness', regardless of what concepts and words they dress the experience in.
