Guest guest
Namaste: During his self-introduction, Sri Jay has provided the following: I have learnt prasthAna traya in their original forms - upanishads, Geetha and sootras to some extent. I have learnt them in the traditional style rather than in the academic style. Sri Sadananda in his reply wrote: " Welcome Jay - with that beautiful background you should be answering our questions not asking!" Two years back Dr.Chari (a learned scholar of prasthaana trayam) was invited by Sri Sadananda to visit Washington metropolitan to provide a systematic analysis of three schools of Vedanta - advaita, vishishhTaadvaita and dvaita. Dr.S.M.S.Chari has written several books comparing the commentaries of the Brahma SutrAs of the three AchAryAs (Sankara, MadhvA and RamAnujA). His books, other works and lectures though scholarly are more biased toward Ramanujacharya's Visishtadvaita philosophy. Dr. Chari provided a week long lectures comparing the merits of the three schools of Vedanta using the prasthaana trayam of the Hindu religion (Upanishads, Brahma suutra and Bhagawat Geeta). He has examined the nature of Brahman, the nature of Jiiva, the nature of the world and the interrelation among the these from the point of shruti, smR^iti and nyaaya prasthaanas. Several members of this list were fortunate to attend the systematic and scholarly analysis of Dr. Chari on the three schools of Vedanta. Dr. Sadananda was the most fortunate because Dr. Chari stayed at his residence and entertained him with daylong discussions. Sadaji has taken notes during the lectures and also has copies of the audiotapes of the lecture series. Sri Jay's objections regarding the validity of 'Adhyasa' has been one of the focal point of Vedantic schools. I want to suggest to Sri Jay to be objective and request him to share his knowledge on this area instead of raising issues here and there without focusing. Sri Sadananda is very knowledgeable in this area and he has spent lots of time to understand all the related issues for several years. I recommend Sri Jay to follow Sadaji's suggestion seriously and go over Brhamasuutra notes that are available in the advaitin file directory. He can also correspond with Sadaji and get clarifications and also share his thoughts and expertise on the subject area. After couple of months Sri Jay can administer a month long discussion on 'Adhyasa' and clear the ignorance of me and other list members. I am quite confident that Sri Sadaji will be more than happy to be a moderator and provide his valuable advice and intervention when necessary. I also want to inform Sri Jay that the objective of the list is to provide a forum for free discussion on topics of contentious issues in Vedanta. The list members may not always agree with what you say but they do respect your right to have your opinion. Warmest regards, Ram Chandran advaitin, "Jay Nelamangala" <jay@r...> wrote: > > Then how come Sri Shankara had to tell it to us? Why is it not so evident to other thinkers? Namaste Sri Jay: Only Newton has to tell us 'Thelaw of gravity' and Einstein has provide us "The theory of relativity." Similarly Shankara has to tell us instead of other thinkers!!
