Namaste:

Yes! you are right.

According to Panchang, Shankara Jayanthi falls on Mesha (Tamil month

of Chithra)on Panchami Thithi. This year, it is on 6th of May, today.

It should be also pointed out that this identification of Sankara's

birth celebration has been formally announced last year at Kamakoti

Peetam (approved by all the Peetams and other Hindu religious

orgnizations). Interestly this week is quite an important week for

the reason, the birthdates of several other saints are also happening

in the same week:

Examples:

Sri Ramanujacharyas

Pujyaswami Chinmayananda

Pujyasri Jayendra Saraswati

(Others who know other birthdays of saints fall during the week can

share the information)

The list wants to join this joyous occasion to remember Adi Sankara

and pays pranams to our Satguru.

Warmest regards,

Ram chandran

Note: Those who live in Washington Metropolitan should attend the

Siva Vishnu Temple Celebration, especially the vedic chanting by the

group lead by Shri Ananthakrishna. Sri Ananthakrishna is doing a

great service to the local community for more than a decade and he

conducts classes for a large contingent of students. Listening to the

Vedic Chanting by the group lead by Sri Ananthakrishna can certainly

take us temporarily take the listeners to get the glimpse of eternal

bliss! Don't miss this opportunity.

Celebrations of the aradhana of another realised Saint - Sadasiva

Brahmendra is also starting today at Nerur in Tamil Nadu. Am

reproducing what i posted to the advaita-L list yesterday.

Lot of people mention Ramana Maharishi & Ramakrishna Paramahamsa as

examples of realised souls. I am attaching a link to the article

in "The

Hindu" newspaper which gives details about the life of another such

realised soul - Sadasiva Brahmendra. I have visited his samadhi at

Nerur on

the banks of the river cauvery. His work - "Atma Vidya Vilasam" is

supposed

to be a gem of work on Advaita. I have heard that HH Sri Sri

Chandrasekhara

Bharathi Swamiji of Sringeri, who was also a Jivanmukta, used to

recite

Atma Vidya Vilasam regularly.
