Guest guest
Namaste! Since participating in this list, I see the number of messages growing like topsy (an old English expression whose meaning I do not know). One wants an easy way to refer back to the best messages, the ones that meant the most to us. Of course, this is highly subjective. There is a good search engine at the eScribe mirror site, but even this is not as convenient as a record of favorite messages. So I just want to point out, for those who may not know, that you can easily cut and paste text from your browser into a Word document. There may be some copyright restrictions, so I am not actually recommending this, only pointing out the technical possibility. At any rate, you should be OK if you keep your clippings strictly to yourself. There is an explicit restriction against downloading the entire archives, but that would defeat the purpose of selective extraction anyway! Once you have the text in a document, you can then reformat it in any way you like. This can be very convenient for the many messages that get garbled in the browser. Also, you can highlight the text in different colors, organize it in chapters, etc. etc. All this makes review and study much easier. I'm sure most of you who care that much have figured it out, but in case you haven't... Om! Benjamin

Benjamin - I have been a member of this list and before that advaitinL group and before that althindu. I have been wondering if it is a good idea to collect all my discussions, codify them subject wise, edit them and publish in book form. The same questions keep coming up again and again. I get the feeling that such a book may be useful for a new student of advaita. To accomplish I may need good serch machince to sort of out on the basis of topic. Hari OM! I am posting to the group in case others have comments. It is indeed a good idea to collect some of your posts into a kind of textbook. I would not try to do too much at once. Start out with your 'Dozen Greatest Hits' or something like that. There can be a Vol.1, Vol.2, etc. Since the various messages on the list tend to be hard to read (especially text wraparound), I strongly recommend putting your best messages into a Word document and then reformatting it for legibility. I did not enjoy reading your Brahma Sutras until I did this. On the website, they look like scrunched up text printed by an old-fashioned typewriter (due to the Courier font). In a Word document, you can give them a nicer, bigger font (like Helvetica), and separate the paragraphs, indent the quotations, give titles and subtitles in large bold font to sections, etc. In other words, make it look like a real book, including title page, table of contents, etc. In my opinion, making the text look nice and well organized is essential if you want people to read it. You could then put the text in a website, which is easy to do, and a free website is available from However, it is easier to just place the Word doc in a PDF file. It will then look just like the Word doc and can be easily uploaded to the Advaitin Site for download by members. If you can't make PDF, I can instantly make one out of any Word doc that you email to me as an attachment, which I can then send back as an attachment. Om! Guest guest
Hi Benjamin, You can download a free utility called 'EmailStripper' from www.papercut.biz that tidies up email messages for re-use elsewhere. I only found out about this last week and first impressions are that it works very well indeed. There is also an excellent package called 'dtsearch' that allows you to search all of your own text, whether emails, MS Word documents, PDF files, etc. Size is no object - it indexes megabytes of data without any difficulty and is very fast. Only problem is that is quite expensive. You could, for example search for all references to 'fate' with the word 'free' occurring within 25 words of it but not the word 'Benjamin'! Best wishes, Dennis

Guest guest
Thanks Ranga and Guruprasad I will start sending by e-mail all the messages I have send - They need to be checked for spellng, gramer, codified by subject wise and complied. Since many of them response to questions - we can use just as 'questioner' rather than name of the person involved to protect their privacy. Thanks for helping me out. Hari OM!
