It is similar to Newton's law of action and reaction: 'What goes around comes around', as we say. This in turn seems similar to the law of the conservation of energy. It endures as long as we identify with the phenomena, where it all takes place. Ultimately, it is a manifestation of the fact that there is one single Unity underlying us all. We think that as doers we can manipulate others and get away with it, but we do not realize that 'others' are ourself at some deep and mysterious level ... mysterious in that the connection may not be immediately evident to the senses. Saying this, I hasten to add that morality is highly ambiguous. It is all fine to preach that we are our brother's keeper and should make any sacrifice for them, as Christians often do, but what if the brother is really misbehaving? Often those who preach morality the most piously do not entail any great sacrifice in doing so. Words are cheap, and other people can really be a pain sometimes! Let's be honest about this. I prefer to remove myself from the presence of seriously deluded people rather than throw my arms around them and give them all my time and love and money. Others have a responsibility to be decent and intelligent and honest. If they fulfill these minimum duties, then it is much easier for us to help them in their time of need. (For one thing, we can lend them money and expect to get it back!) So to answer your question, I think you got it right in your final words: 'Is it the Universal Mind itself dealing with its constituent parts.' Om!
