Guest guest
Hello Benjamin, Is it tenable that the matter of the list should be decided by those who do not participate. No doubt they are reluctant to question their elders as this perhaps implies disrespect. There are cultural norms at work here. Access to computers might be difficult, who knows. In a discussion list the non-participant must accept the vacuous meandering as well as the gleam of gold in the gravel. If he doesn't like it then he can jump in and add his char anna (25 payse) worth. You appear to be a little sore because your cake had knives plunged in it which did not emerge clean. Remedy - put it back in the oven for a little more baking. I am naughty. Idealism is a perfectly respectable position. I have before me a book entitled 'The vindication of Absolute Idealism' by Timothy Sprigge. He is the Professor of Metaphysics at Edinburgh University and goes to India on convivium meets with colleagues to meet their Indian counterparts. He speaks of two kinds of monistic metaphysics. "The second speak primarily of there being a single subject of experience, or perhaps a pure essence of consciousness, which looks out at, or feels the world from, the situation of every single finite subject in each of which it is thought of as being equally and wholly present. We might call this one-in-many or one-in-all monism". Schopenhauer, Bradley, Schrodinger, and Vedanta he puts in this camp. This is where he places himself approximately and he got there via thorough going Idealism. He has a chapter called 'The Vindication of Panpsychism. One thing I can claim with absolute certainty - No copy of this book has beach sand in it. Best Wishes, Michael.
