Namaste!

For those list members who have been confused (and perhaps annoyed)

by occasional digressions into 'subjective idealism' and the Western

philosopher Berkeley, let me briefly say this:

(1) This will be discussed in October in detail and should be

quite stimulating, providing a different angle on Advaitic ideas,

(2) meanwhile you may enjoy reading a brief and interesting

article called 'Berkeley and Hinduism at:

http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Styx/3149/berk.htm

Advaitins should be pleased to see similar philosophies arising

'spontaneously' in other cultures.

The key point is that 'materialism' is how the world appears when we

are at a low level of consciousness, and 'immaterialism' (or

idealism) is how it appears when we are more inspired. It is not

just a coincidence that 'materialism' has two negative connotations

and 'idealism' has two positive connotations. In both cases, the

connotations are related.

Om!
