Guest guest
Dear Devotees, The question which I am posing is out of the context. But still I do it so that the learned members on the list can guide. 12th is the upaakarma and Gayatri-prathi-path is also on 12th itself. So when should we do the Gayatri-japam ?? Should we do the Gayatri-japam before upakarma or do the japam in the evening after the karma or should we do the japam on 13th morning ? Can somebody who is staying in the vicinity of Sringeri or Kanchi, enquire the aachaaryas to clarify what should be the order of these two thins ( upakarma and Gayati-japam ) ?? Guest guest
Namaste: The following information is from the Pittsburgh Venkateswara Temple regarding Upakarma, this year. Sri Siva-Vishnu temple located in Washington Metropolitan also follow the same dates mentioned below. These institutions follow authentic Vedic traditions and I believe that you can also observe Upakarma accordingly. Tuesday, August 12 Rg and Yajur Veda Upākarma Wednesday, August 13 Gāyatri Japam Saturday, August 30 Sāma Veda Upākarma At the temple, Upākarmā & Gāyatri Japam starts at 6:30 a.m. It is always a good idea to do the Yagnopavetam on the first day and Gayathri on the second day. The purpose of Gayathri Japam is meditation and it will be most effective early in the morning, right at sunrise. regards, Ram Chandran advaitin, "Theju" <thejasvi_ms@p...> wrote: > Dear Devotees, > > 12th is the upaakarma and Gayatri-prathi-path is also on 12th itself. Guest guest
Namaste: More On Upakarma Upakarma - English transliterated texts with explanations URL: http://www.vishuji.com/aavani.htm Upakarma details with Tamil Text, audio (Sanskrit Mantras) and with illustrative pictures: URL: http://www.ahobilam.com/upakarma/ This vedic ritual in appearance may look out of context, this is quite relevant for mind purification. The Shankara Mutts established by Adi Shankara promote and recommend these rituals for mind purification. When this ritual is performed with dedication and full attention, the performers can experience peace. It should be pointed out that Shankara was not against all Vedic Karmas but he was emphasizing that those perform should conduct them with the 'spiritual attitude of gaining peace' instead of looking for materialistic comforts and gains! warmest regards, Ram Chandran
