Role of Veda for a Mumukshu

Dear Friends

I am a zero in advaita. I have a basic doubt. I read in an old article

of advaita that, as per Sri Shankara's advaita siddantha, the role of

veda is limited to vyavaharic issues. Veda can't bring or bestow jnana.

Jnana can only come outside veda by knowledge.

Is it true? What is the exact role of Veda in getting jnana or moksha?

Please clarify me.

Thanks

Namaste, Jayaraman-ji. Your question is legitimate. The one-line

answer to your question is: The vedas lead to vedanta. Without the

performance of the karmas enunciated in the vedas, one will not be

led to a right understanding of vedanta. This matter is very

important for us to know because very often we think that one can

jump into vedanta just like that. The few people who can do it are

those with great purva-karma-credit with them.

Anyway it is worthwhile to read a whole chapter (pp.57-67)

entitled "Do Veda and Vedanta clash" in the book "The Vedas" by Sri

Chandrasekharendra Sarasati (The Paramacharya), published by

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan. It has all the answers you require, straight

from the 'horse's mouth' !

Maybe Sundar-ji can tell you how to get it on the web.
