Guest guest
friends, there were many views expressed on this topic by the learned members of this group. to some extent i got myself enlightened. but i have one doubt which i am sure the learned members can answer. in Hindu tredition we have seen many mahans who have got enlightened by their self efforts or sadhana. for eg Bhagavan Ramana Maharishi by self enquiry. also we had people like Bhaka Ramadasar who got enlightened by singing the praise of god.we also saw people like Saint Thigaraja who composed many carnatic songs which are also praised and i am sure is one of the ways of realising the self. of late we have seen the Kanchi seer Maha Periyaval who was a realised soul by his thapas which he did on the banks of river palar near Kanchipuram.after seeing all this: " can people get enlightened with out following the advaidic principles like meditation? is it possible for some one to say 'i have got enlightened by a third force ie a spirit which is not god'. i do not know if ia m right. pranams to all advaitins cdr bvn ______________________ Want to chat instantly with your online friends? Guest guest
Namaste Sri Vaidyanathan: You have stated the question beautifully and the answer lies in our understanding of what we mean by 'meditation.' There is an excellent essay based on a Sri Jettu's (JK)discourse or some conversation. (I don't have a ready reference and I have seen his explanation in one of the videos produced by the JK international organization). He correctly points out that 'meditation' is not just sitting quietly in a corner for an indefinite time! If someone fully submerged in his/her work and conduct the duties with the spirit of 'nondoer' then he/she will be meditating. This meditating perfect yogi could be a journalist, novelist, artist, a housewife, teacher, etc., conducting the worldly duties fully detached. Such a yogi instantaneously superimposed with the almighty Parabrahman!! This the subtle message of advaita and with contemplation we can recognize the Truth behind this message!
