Guest guest
friends, with the starting of "Navarathri" this article in Hindu gives us the real meaning of this festival. Role of the Divine Mother CHENNAI SEPT.26 . The Almighty manifests in the world from time to time to redeem humanity and re-establish Dharma. Among these incarnations that of Lord Krishna is unique in many respects. The manner of His birth itself was exceptional. Born in a prison cell He revealed His divine form to His parents, Vasudeva and Devaki, as soon as He was born. It was a miracle that He was transferred to Gokul and grew up with His foster parents without Kamsa having any inkling about what had happened. His childhood deeds were another wonder and it is recounted in spiritual tradition that Nammazhwar revelled in them and once swooned in ecstasy and remained unconscious for six months when he recalled how accessible He was to this simple cowherd community. The practice of celebrating the marriage of the Divine Couple is popular in religious tradition and also discoursing on them during expositions of the epics and the Puranas. What is its significance? All the three aspects of the Supreme Being, Brahma, Vishnu and Siva, have consorts. It is to highlight that the Lord and the Divine mother are inseparable that they are spoken of in unison. Moreover, with reference to humanity and the world, both the Lord and the Divine Mother have certain roles to play. For instance, in the context of man's emancipation the intercession of the Divine Mother when man surrenders to God is crucial in His condoning human lapses, which is otherwise difficult without Her grace as man's sins are innumerable. Besides, She represents auspiciousness and bounty in the world. In his Harikatha, Kalyanapuram Sri R. Aravamudan said the marriage of Lord Krishna and Rukmini as recounted in the Bhagavata Purana offered the insight that it was preordained as they were the descents of the Divine Couple. Rukmini had decided to marry Krishna after listening to His divine deeds from visitors to Her father's palace. Krishna had similarly heard about Her and made up His mind to wed Her. But Rukmini's brother Rukmi who hated the Lord tried to deter his parents from pursuing the match by proposing Sishupala's name. Just as Andal vowed not to wed any mortal but the Lord Himself, Rukmini also decided to take the matter into Her hands and despatched a trusted emissary to Krishna with a message to intervene. This illustrates that a devotee should on his part make effort to elicit divine grace, even though He is ever ready to shower His grace on His devotees. copy right: The Hindu Daily ______________________ Want to chat instantly with your online friends?
