Guest guest
Namaste Nairji, Thank you for your mail. Nairji, if you go through my mail once again, you will see that I didn't post my understanding on the matter. I had left it open for everyone to arrive at their own conclusions. Several interpretations comes to my (ignorant) mind which I will try to express in words. >From Sankara Bhashyam: " By following the commonsense view, he puts this question knowingly: 'There are in the world varieties of pieces of gold etc. which are known by ordinary people from the recognized fact of the substantial oneness of gold etc. Similarly does there exist a single (substance that is the ) cause of the whole universe of diversity, by knowing which one (substance) all things become known?' " a) We know a ring as a ring, a bangle as a bangle etc., because of our knowledge of the underlying Gold. What use will be the ring to a 1 month old child or to a lunatic? So the knowledge of a substance verily depends on the knowledge of its underlying reality. Now Shaunaka is keen to know whether such a single underlying reality is there in all the empirical objects in the universe. And if there exists such a reality, he wants to gain the knowledge of that reality. b) Nuclear physics and all empirical knowledge is in the realm of ignorance. All of them are just superimpositions on the underlying reality. Suppose we have a pot in front of us. The name and form of the pot is just an illusion. The underlying reality is mud. Now what is the real knowledge that we should acquire about the object in front of us ? Is it about the pot per se or about the reality of the pot which is mud ? If we define knowledge as 'knowledge of Reality', then it follows that Knowledge of mud is the only thing to be gained about that object in front of us. Similarly Brahman being the only reality, it follows that if Knowledge of Brahman is gained and it will cover everything since it is the reality and one without a second. Sorry for my "anyatha grahanam" if any, and for creating these low levels of confusions. :-) The other option will be just learning to repeat the mahAvAkyAs, some phrases like "All is Brahman", "Knower, Known and Knowing becomes One", "Knowing which everything becomes known", "Existence-Knowledge-Bliss" etc., and remain silent waiting for something to happen. Maybe that silence is indeed the Key ! With deep respect for your words. Hari Om
