Guest guest
Note from the List Moderators: The question by Sri Kannan was raised couple of weeks ago in the list and Sri. Sunder (one of the moderators) has provided the answer to this question. Simple translation of these terms will resemble them to be the same but however, we should be careful while drawing our conclusions. The vedantic perspective of 'Nirvana' differs from the perspective of Buddhism and we suggest interested members to look for more details from the list archive. The term 'kaivalya' is also discussed in greater details in Patanjali's yoga sastra. ======================================== Namashkar! well , simply translated " kailvalya" means a state of Aloneness - a state when you are alone filled with God consciouness ! this is why lord shiva is described as Kaivalya natha priya one who is fond of being alone ! (a yogic state) in fact, there is minor upanishad of the same name .... Nirvana or nibbhana is a buddhist term - it means 'freedom' ... what we hindus call Moksha or liberation! i guess a state of kaivalya will ultimately lead to nirvana ! my 2 cents i am sure many learned members here will give a more elaborate explanation... advaitin, Puzhankarai Narayanan Kannan <pnkannan_cm> wrote: > Dear Advaitins > > What is 'KAIVALYA' & What is 'NIRVANA' > Do they mean same state ?
