Guest guest
Namaste, I recently posted some definitions of 'mystical experience' by some famous scholars; see http://www.bodysoulandspirit.net/index.shtml This site also has a registry of mystical experiences by famous and anonymous people. I admit that I enjoy reading about descriptions of personal mystical experiences as well as near death experiences. However, the question always is, 'Who is telling the truth?' The site above has many anonymous contributions. It occurred to me, while reading these, that anonymity makes the experience much more credible. This is the opposite of what one might think at first. The reason is that many people today are trying to sell books or give lectures based on such alleged personal experiences. There is a big market for it and many gullible people. Or at least, many people are trying to boost their ego and gain some kind of recognition. In my opinion, this vitiates almost all accounts that are not anonymous (or at least this is true of the modern ones). It is true that some of the anonymous accounts may also be mere stories, but I think this is rather less likely. Is it really such a fun joke? Anyhow, the ultimate test is always the sincerity and authenticity that the reader perceives when reading an account. Anonymity merely helps to make that sincerity and authenticity a bit more credible. Benjamin
