Even to discharge one's duties, such as ensuring a regular income for the family, providing for their security etc. one needs grace. Grace comes by praying and contemplation of the higher. Promise of wealth or better performance in one's job, miracle cures etc. seem to be method/lure consciousness adopts to draw the mind towards it. Consciousness knows that once the mind is thus turned inwards the promises do not matter anymore. The mind as it merges with consciousness stops the seeking of material things. Is this a fair understanding of the mechanism of how seeking is initiated and progress is guaranteed by consciousness? Or have i tied myself into knots. Also, my apologies for this short diversion from the teachings of Shri Atmananda -III subject we are on. Many pranams all Sridhar

Of course what we *really* want is the end to all desire. This is the "de re" goal instead of the "de dicto" goal. Anything short of that, and dissatisfaction is looming around the corner. Your seeking trajectory seems to have been a lot more direct and less confused than my friends'. Actually, the reverse of theirs! My friends -- what they were conceiving of as the object of their desire was money, career. Because of the teachings they received, they came to believe that liberation would provide these things. So the object of their desire shifted to liberation as the means to their personal ends. In your case, it seems the other way around! It seems like you came to realize that conventional seeking (family, career) leads on and on. It comes to serve as a hook for seeking one's true nature. You realized much sooner than my friends that consciousness was summoning you home, using the temporary attractions of life to get your attention.
