Guest guest
Innate yearning for God CHENNAI NOV. 29. All human beings have an innate yearning and desire in them to seek the Supreme, whose will, desire and designs have fashioned the cosmos. In this quest for higher things, in the endeavour to rise above the ordinary, one of the most profound, yet simplest when comprehended, is the identity of the self. Today man is swamped by the materialism of the physical world surrounding him, and, is confused into thinking that the consumerist body with its attendant needs and shortcomings is him. To the wise, however, this is the starting point of all the problems that beset human life. The Bhagavad Gita makes a clear distinction between the biological entity (kshetra) and that which holds the knowledge or spiritual substance (kshetrajna). The entire gamut of matter including the mind, the intellect and the senses are constantly subject to modifications while the conscious self is entirely different in nature, said Sri Govind Chaitanya in his discourse. When understood in this manner, the quintessence of oneself holds the infinite within itself. It is distinct from the body, the emotions, and feelings as well as the transient joys and sorrows experienced by us in this short journey of life. This knowledge and awareness is the beginning of one's progression towards reaching Godself. The Supreme Being is everywhere, and resides in each one of us. Perceiving and realising this presence is the ultimate goal of aspirants. In the natural world we have accepted many subtleties — for example, ice floating on water looks distinct, yet in essence it is the same as water. A piece of iron becomes magnetic when an unperceivable alignment of molecules takes place. Comprehension of such phenomena has come about after great efforts in studying the physical world with an insight into its fundamental character. Similarly, the essence of the Supreme is gained through a different kind of undertaking — by devotion, following the path of righteousness as stated in the scriptures and by the performance of one's duties. copy right: The Hindu-daily ______________________ Download Messenger now for a chance to win Live At Knebworth DVDs http://www..co.uk/robbiewilliams
