Guest guest
Namaste, I would like to know if any respected member in this list has read the book "Advaitasiddhi- A Critical Study" by K. Maheswaran Nair. I wanted to know something more about it before placing an order. Thanks in advance. Hari Om ranjeet

Guest guest
Dear Venkatji, Namaste. Thank you for your quick reply. When my father met the author of this book, he asked whether I know Sanskrit language or not. I want to know if knowledge of Sanskrit is an essential prerequisite for reading this book. Its in English, isnt it? Also, I have not read the original work by Madusudhana Saraswathy. All I have read about Advaitasiddhi is from the files section in advaitin list. So is it worth buying? Awaiting your advise. Guest guest
Namaste Ranjeetji, Mr Maheswaran's Nairs book is entirely in English. It starts with a brief biography of Madhudana Saraswati, the context of Dvaita-Advaita polemics in which Advaitasiddhi is set, an overview of the whole book and then a chapter by chapter examination of the text. It is not a translation of the original text but rather a free rendering by Mr Nair. Where relevant it also refers one to other texts like Panchapadika etc. Advaitasiddhi uses Navya Nyaya logic, so Nair explains as he goes along the necessary aspects of this as well. One of my ambitions in life is to be able to read and understand Advaitasiddhi. Some years back I bought a translation of the text by Shri Ganganath Jha. Reading it can be a very humbling experience because atleast I found it to be almost entirely beyond me. Then I saw Sadaji's advice on this list to the effect that Advaittasiddhi belongs to the curriculam of Post Graduate studies in Advaita and is best not attempted by people who are not yet out of school. I bought Nair's book after reading this advise because of all the things ated earlier in this mail. When I get to the stage where I think that I am qualified to read Advaitasiddhi, though I suspect that Nair's book may be a diluted version of that great text, almost certainly I will first try reading it before attempting Jha's translation. praNAms, Venkat - M Ranjeet Sankar <thefinalsearch wrote: When my father met the author of this book, he asked whether I know Sanskrit language or not.
