Guest guest
Namaste, Reference Sri Ramchandranji's message #19889 : Based on our experience in the current year, the following modifications are proposed for the year 2004 - 1. The limit of one month for the Topic will be removed. 2. The Topic Leader will decide when to wrap up and close the topic. 3. For the discussion to spill over into the 4th month after its start will have to be approved by the Moderators. 4. Any new topic will start on the 1st of the month following the closure of the last one. 5. Discussion of other subjects may continue, especially on articles appearing serially such as Soundaryalahari or Advaita Manjari; but not overwhelm the major Topic. If such contingency arises, the topic can be placed 'on the waiting list' for fuller discussion. In view of the changes propsed above, Sri Ananda can continue with his present Topic through the month of January. He may request further extension. The next two Topic Leaders tentatively scheduled are: Dennis Waite - What is happiness? Diverse perspectives of happiness Madathil Nair - pUrNamadaH pUrNamidam - Completeness is Changeless Scheduling of the Topics is flexible depending on the availablity of the Leader. =================================================================== We request volunteers to lead these topics; also, any other topics of interest to members. (Moderators can be helpful, but should not be solely assigned this task!) Yet to be scheduled: (Subject to revision) srishti-drshti vada of advaita (Doctrine of creation & perception) Naive Realism - the philosophical doctrine on the existence of of objects AdhyArOpApavAda's role in advaita siddhAnta (Sri Bhasker) Three Vedantic Schools of Thoughts - Similarities and Differences Historical perspective of Shankara's Advaita philosophy Proper understanding of wake-up/dream/deep-sleep states Gita Topics for Discussion: Practicing Karma Yoga in daily life (Sri Sridhar) Karma and/or karma-phala: what is it and its role in advaita Gita's qualifications for a seeker - Value of Values (Sri Krishna Prasad) Advaita Vedantic Perspectives Evidenced through Gita Verses The field and knower of the field - Purusha and Prakriti Maya in Vedas (Ken Knight) ================================================================= [ As a refresher, the following topics were covered in 2003. Requests for repeat of the topics can be given consideration if adequately justified. ] To quote Ramji: we still look for volunteers who can dedicate their time to prepare and lead the discussions. I want to assure the volunteering members that this simple sadhana will guide to them to read appropriate books and writings and help them to articulate their thoughts. This is a great opportunity for self-learning and also to improve your writing and reading habits. The file "Advaita Discussion Topics" at the site with the URL: advaitin contains the details. This file will be updated regularly and will become a useful reference file for the members. Our Discussion Topics for year 2003: January: advaita and visistadvaita February: Blessed are the Peacemakers March: Meaning of Consciousness is One (Sri Benjamin) April:Fate and Freewill(Sri Dennis) May: j'nana and Bhakti (Sri Gummuluru and Sri Sunder) June: Some Ideas on Avatars July: How I discovered the Awareness watching Awareness method. Guest guest
Hello Sunderji, Thanks for your well organized presentation of the topics, past, present and future. I would like to suggest a future topic: "The place of practice in advaita vedanta: Is practice required? Does it help?" I admit I'm not the best qualified to lead that particular discussion. But if no one else surfaces, I'd certainly do so, if only to keep it organized. Pranams, --Greg
