What is consciousness? Can any member enlighten me on this?

Shree Sundara Rajan - before we can define what is consciousness, can I

ask you a simpler question.

 

Are you conscous or not? Of course you are, since you are able to

communicate and since an unconscious entity cannot communicate. Since

you are conscious entity, can you now provide us what is that makes you

a conscious entity and not unconscious entity? If you can answer, you

have essentially answered your question.

 

One can not define what is consciousness? one can only see or infer its

very presence by its manifestations - A conscious entity is a living

entity - He is conscious of ' ...' and one can provide a big list of all

that one is conscious of.

 

Here is how upanishad describes:

 

 

That which one cannot speack of but beause of which one has the capacity

to speack;

 

That which one cannot see but because of which one has the capacity to

see;

 

That which one cannot hear but beause of which one has the capacity to

hear;

 

That which one cannot think of but because of which one has to the

capacity to think.

 

That beause of which one is said to be alive.

 

that is brahman and that brahman is consciousness.

 

One can only define an object - one cannot define the subject - and only

the definition of the subject is that which cannot be objectified. That

subject 'I am' is the existent conscious entity.
