Guest guest
Hello All Advaitins, Apologies for leading the members astray. Just a quick note which I may follow up if and when my understanding matures. The counterpositive is defined on page 62 V.P. in the notes of Swami Madhavananda. The counterpositive is the real entity which backs the illusion. Without their being real snakes and real silver somewhere there could not be illusory snakes and silver. In the section on inference that first gave rise to the question of double negation the contrapositive of the unreality of anything is the actual real existent thing. The cloth that does not exist has as its counterpositive cloth that actually exists somewhere. In a way it is its real counterpart. The significance of its role is to accentuate the positivity of perception even in the case of illusion. Best Wishes,Michael.
