Guest guest Posted February 19, 2004 Report Share Posted February 19, 2004 It is my pleasure to bring to the members here Adi Shankara;s FAMOUS Panchakshara Mantra on the auspicious day of maha-shivaratri! nàgondrahàràya trilocanàya bhasmàïgaràgàya mahe÷varàya | nityàya ÷uddhàya digambaràya tasmai *NA*kàràya NAmaþ ÷ivàya || Salutations to the ashes-clad, three-eyed Lord, embodied as the first letter *Na*, who is pure, nude(WITH SKY AS THE ORNAMENT) and eternal and whose garland is the lord of serpents. ********************************************************************** mandàkinisalilacandanacarcitàya nandã÷varapramathanàthamahe÷varàya | mandàrapuùpabahupuùpasupåjitàya tasmai *MA*kàràya namaþ ÷ivàya || I bow to Him, embodied as *Ma*kara, who is adorned with innumerable divine flowers as Mandara and the like, who is the Sovereign King of the Pramatha Ganas and whose body is anointed with the holy waters of the celestial Ganga. ********************************************************************** Sivàya gaurãvadanàravindasåryàya dakùàdhvaranà÷akàya | Srãnãlakaõñhàya vçùadhvajàya tasmai *Si*kàràya namaþ Sivàya || To the blue-necked Lord, embodied as the letter *Si*, the destroyer of Daksha's sacrifice and the resplendent Sun of Gauri's lotus-face, whose banner bears the emblem of a bull, may our salutations be. ********************************************************************** vasiùñakumbhodbhavagautamàryamunãndradevàrcita÷ekharàya | candràrkavai÷vànaralocanàya tasmai *va*kàràya namaþ ÷ivàya || I prostrate before the God of gods, embodied as *Va*kara, whose eyes are sun, moon and the fire and whom the gods and the great sages like Vasishtha, Agastya and Gautama, ever pray and Worship. ********************************************************************** yakùasvaråpàya jañàdharàya pinàkahastàya sanàtanàya | divyàya devàya digambaràya tasmai *ya*kàràya namaþ ÷ivàya || Prostrations to that Ancient Naked God, embodied as the letter *Ya*, the Yaksha incarnate whose hairs are long and matted and who holds Pinaka in His hand. ********************************************************************* ppa¤càkùaramidaü puõyaü yaþ pañhecchivasannidhau | Sivalokamavàpnoti Sivena saha modate || Whoever repeats this prayer, composed with the five holy letters before Lord Siva, attains that supreme abode of His and enjoys there with Him in eternal bliss. ********************************************************************** LISTEN TO THIS STOTRA IN THE MELODIOUS VOICE OF M.S.SUBBALAKSHMI-it is sp wonderful! http://www.musicindiaonline.com GO TO DEVOTIONAL MUSIC AND CLICK ON SANSKRIT STOTRA AND STROLL DOWN TO PANCHAKSHARA MANTRA! om namaha shivaya!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
