Guest guest
Dear Sri Dennisji, and all learned memebrs, Congratulations on an excellently written introduction to the topic - Happiness. <<<<The Meaning of Happiness.....>>> Please permit me to say a few words. With regard to "Map", which you mentioned, I think the whole problem is, one wants the river to follow the map he already has, rather than the map should follow the river. This approach does make a big difference with regard to "remaining" in happiness. We just do not seem to accept things. Swami Sukhbodhanandaji said, all our unhappiness is because of "greed to be somebody" and "fear to be nobody". <<<<<<We constantly worry about what others think of us, whether we are doing the>>>>> In this context, I remember an anecdote, Swami Dayananda Saraswatiji used to tell. One boy felt he was a cat and he remained inside his room all the time. His parents got worried and since they could not put him right, he was taken to a psychiatrist, who after a lot of effort, convinced the boy that he was not a cat, but very much a human being, like any other boy. Somehow, the boy felt satisfied and left. However, after a while, the boy came again to see the psychiatrist and complained that he was still afraid of coming out of his room although he knew he was a boy. When asked what was the problem now, the boy replied, “I know I am not a cat, but do the dogs in the street also know that”.
