O SADHU! my land is a sorrowless land.

I cry aloud to all, to the king and the beggar, the emperor and the

fakir--

Whosoever seeks for shelter in the Highest, let all come and settle

in my land!

Let the weary come and lay his burdens here!

So live here, my brother, that you may cross with ease to that other

shore.

It is a land without earth or sky, without moon or stars;

For only the radiance of Truth shines in my Lord's Durbar [Abode].

Kabîr says: "O beloved brother! naught is essential save Truth"

[Haq].

Namaste dadiji,

That was a beautiful poem translated into English. I don't quite

remember all the words of it. Do you have it in the Hindi form? It

was something like

mohe vatan chalo .... something something.... it was beatufil! Pity I

don't remember these beautiful dohas. I'll ask someone to send that

book down here to me. Meanwhile can you find the Hindi version for it?

dearest Balaji ,

i would have posted in the Hindi version in the first instance but i

don't have it with me.

Here is a Doha of Kabir which is relevant to the present discussion -

Anubhuti (realization) versus Anubhav (experience ) versus ADHYAYAN

(book learning) ...

Pothi Padh Padh Kar Jag Mua, Pandit Bhayo Na Koye

Dhai Aakhar Prem Ke, Jo Padhe so Pandit Hoye

Translation

Reading books everyone died, none became any wise

One who reads the word of Love, only becomes wise

My Understanding

To understand this doha in its true perspective is important. We all

read and now with tremendous media exposure, we are seemingly more

informed. Everyone seems to know everything. Yet, the truth is that

inspite of all this information, there is no awareness. We are not

at peace. There is a lot of frustration all around. Our minds are

not quiet and relaxed. We talk of Love but have no compassion.

Selfishness, greed, fear, hatred and similar tendencies seem to grip

us all the time. Why?

Kabir in this doha shows the way, in his simple but dynamic style. He

daringly says that despite all our readings, despite all our

knowledge, we cannot become wise. Only if we 'read' Love, become

loving and loveable, only then wisdom will dawn on us. Only then

Life will be worth living.

what is this 'love' Kabir is preaching about?

here i would like to quote a verse from Manisha Pancchakam!

daasaste.ahaM dehadR^ishhTyaa.asmi shaMbho

jaatasteM.asho jiivadR^ishhTyaa tridR^ishhTe |

sarvasyaa.a.atmannaatmadR^ishhTyaa tvameve\-

tyevaM me dhiirnishchitaa sarvashaastraiH ||

Oh Lord ! In the form of body I am your servant. In the form of life,

O three-eyed one, I am part of yourself. In the form of soul, you

are within me and in every other soul.I have arrived at this

conclusion through my intellect and on the authority of the various

scriptures.

**********************************************************************

Until and unless , we have all *arrived* at this understanding

through our own realization,, we are all like the Six blind men

trying to describe what an elephant (adwaita) looks like! Scriptural

understanding , intellectual understanding etc are of no use ... the

only understanding that counts is ...

Tat TWAM ASI! REALLY i AM !
