Guest guest
dEarest Bala-ji! after reading all these various posts on Veda and VEdana or VEDANA AND sADHANA , i am reminded of the following story.... THE TALE OF TWO BIRDS! The *TAME BIRD* was in a cage, the *FREE BIRD* was in the forest. THEY met when the time came. it was a decree of fate. The free BIRD CRIES, "O my love, let us fly to the wood." The cage bird whispers, "COME hither, let us both live in the cage," Says, THE FREE BIRD , "AMONG BARS, WHERE IS THERE ROOM TO SPREAD ONE'S WINGS?" ALAS," CRIES THE CAGE BIRD," i SHOULD NOT KNOW WHERE TO SIT PERCHED IN THE SKY." THe free bird cries, " sing the song of the woodlands." the cage bird says, "sit by my side, i'll teach you the speech of the learned." the forest bird cries, "no !oh no!songs can never be taught." the cage bird says, "alas for me, i know not the songs of the woodlands." their love is intense with longing but they never can fly wing to wing. through the bars of the cage they look, and vain is their wish to know each other. THEY FLUTTER THEIR WINGS IN YEARNING ,AND SING, "COME CLOSE, MY LOVE." the free bird cries, "it cannot be, i fear the closed doors of the cage," the cage bird whispers, "alas, my wings are powerless and dead." Rabindranath Tagore- from the 'GARDNER' ********************************************************************** this is what ignorance is all about! trapped in their own little world, these souls of ours! Guest guest
Dear spiriual pilgrims, a friend sent this via email and it is so beautiful i want to share it with you all Lady Joyce" <shaantih adi_shakthi16 Fw: Saint Therese of Avila...offlist Sun, 4 Apr 2004 15:17:16 -0400 Dear Adiji :-) I am a member of the advaitin list, mostly quiet. Although I visit in and out, I have been enjoying your recent dialogues. I do not read everything, but I just happened to read your tale of two birds...another story. It struck me that at the same moment, USA time, we both pushed the send button on the wisdom of Tagore, and even more interesting... opposite sides of the coin, so to speak. Just thought you would appreciate the "duality" of the moment, if you will :-) Hope you don't mind my posting you offlist. Love, Joyce Mine was a response to another's post...but I had been surfing the net last night to collect some Tagore poems, and this one seemed so apropos... what a coincidence :-) - Lady Joyce AdyashantiSatsang Cc: Sunday, April 04, 2004 2:15 PM Re: [AdyashantiSatsang] Saint Therese of Avila "The Ecstasy of Saint Therese" BERNINI, Gian Lorenzo (b. 1598, Napoli, d. 1680, Roma) "My heart was carried, and my head with, without I being able to prevent it." ~ St. Therese of Avila LoveAlways,Mazie +++ When I go from hence let this be my parting word, that what I have seen is unsurpassable. I have tasted of the hidden honey of this lotus that expands on the ocean of light, and thus am I blessed — let this be my parting word. In this playhouse of infinite forms I have had my play and here have I caught sight of him that is formless. My whole body and my limbs have thrilled with his touch who is beyond touch; and if the end comes here, let it come — let this be my parting word.
