If I may interject here for a moment:

 

The mantra,IMHO, refers to a 'post-enlightenment' perspective,

where the duality of adaH and idam have been transcended, not unlike

the maha-vakya 'tat tvam asi' leading to 'ahaM brahma asmi'

realization.

Or better examples would be Trishanku's exclamation in Taittiriya

upanishad: 1:10:1 - ahaM vRRkShasya reriva - "I am the mover of the

Tree (of samsara)........", or Vamadeva exclaiming "I was Manu and I

became the Sun" (Rig Veda IV.26.1).
