And most of us are Guna Brahmins. Not one who puts the Yagyobavidham but the quality of the mind should be Brahmin. Most important is whether we are Guna Brahmin's are not, there is no consideration for jati Brahmins! even Bhagwan says no jati. so there is no significance for them. In Srimad Bhagawad Geetha Lord says: "ChaturVarnYam MaYaa srisHtam Guna, Karma Vibhavasha ha" Brahmin is the mouth of Bhagwan, Bahu of Bhagwan is Kshathriya, and his big uoru is Vaishya and the Padam is Sudra. Actually we all worship the Padam of Bhagwan, so sudra is worshipped, mostly. The GODs which Jati Brahmin's worship are not jati Brahmins! Lord Krishna was a Yadava according to jati Lord Rama was a Kshatriya according to jati Veda Vyasa was born for a fisherwoman, and Lord Shiva luckily nobody knows his religion. Jati Brahmin's is not at all valid in our scriptures it all made by certain group of people. Only thing we are concerned about is whether we are Guna Brahmins or not. So become a Guna Brahmin even if you are a jati Brahmin. There is no speciality for Jati Brahmin. With Love & OM! Krishna Prasad
Guest guest
Namaste Krishnaji, Thanks a lot for posting that message about brahmin jati here. You touched on something that even I agree with. One should be a human being first, then one should have the right qualifications to be called whatever. But then that should not really matter. It does not in Dharma, but unfortunately, soceity has formed itself into such groups nowadays. But again let me draw your kind attention to the fact that a Brahmin is said to be so only if he knows the Absolute Truth - Brahman. The sanskrit word - brAhmaNah means one who knows Brahman. Even the Buddha critcized the dogmatic birth based caste system prevalent in India and established the meaning on Brahmin in the last chapter of DhammapAda where he says 'One whose beyond-o-not-beyond or beyond-&- not-beyond can't be found; unshackled, carefree: he's what I call a brahmin.' This cannot come simply through philosphy [message #22206], but will come only through 'right practice', AcharaNa. -Balaji
Guest guest
PS: So from what I had written earlier about Brahmin and not brahmin, none of us here is eligible to be called brahmin. But soceity calls itself so. Hence, I use the vyAvahArika term here (being that of jAti, which is very unfortunate).

Namaste I hope the following does not surprise the members who are discussing the above topic: Axccording to scriptures, a brahmin ceases to be a brahmin the moment he does one of the following: (this is not an exhaustive list!) (1) defaults on his Gayatri japa; (2) sells his knowledge; (3) accepts a bribe ; (4) urinates, like an animal, while standing; or (5) copulates, without wanting a progeny. Guest guest
Namaste Sri Balaji: I find your speculative statements such as - "None of us here is eligible to be called brahmin" is inappropriate. This advaitin list family consists of nearly 800 members, some of them possess the necessary credintials to be called as brahmins and everyone in the list is certainly eligible to become a brahmin! Is anyone stopping them to become a brahmin? Warmest regards, Ram Chandran Note: The saying, "If we spill the grains, we can pick them back without much damage, but if the words are spilled, it can't be taken back!" advaitin, "Balaji Ramasubramanian" <balajiramasubramanian> wrote: > PS: So from what I had written earlier about Brahmin and not brahmin, > none of us here is eligible to be called brahmin. " This cannot come simply through philosphy [message #22206], but will > come only through 'right practice', AcharaNa. well, "acharana" is RIGHT PRACTICE ! but that is only the first step ! without 'sadacharam' (virtuous conduct) , such 'acharna' is only an ornament! you can wear the cleanest of clothes, take bath daily , do trikala sandhavadanam but if you cannot practice sadacharam then it is not meaningful, brahmin or no brahmin!!! here 'sadacharam;' can be interprested in Two ways ! 1) virtuous conduct 2) conduct of the virtuous What is the use of 'external' cleanliness if the person has a bad conduct! so, to be a person with brahminical qualities you need 1)AAcharam (PURITY) 2) AnushaNAM (RIGHT OBSERVANCE) AND MOST IMPORTANTLY 3) SADACHARAM ( virtuous conduct) thanks for listening! love d(adi)ji !
