Guest guest
Namaste All, At the fair the thimble rigger tries to lure the gamblers. He has three little cups and under one of them is a pea. Swiftly he moves the cups around sometimes taking the pea under one cup and then under another so fast that you cannot follow it. The gamblers bet where the pea is when he's finished. Savithri-ji has mentioned the problem whereby a confusion arises as to where the 'pea' of the topic lies (topic from Gk.topos, a place). Is it under the paramarthika or the vyavaharika thimble. I submit that there is another thimble in there which compounds the difficulty. I mean that of the metaphysical which relates to issues such as material identity and non-difference of cause and effect. Sometimes these issues and theories are treated as though they were part of the Absolute when in fact they are in the domain of the Relative as being the first principles of the Relative. At other times they are treated as though they were analogical of the Absolute and we get discussion of foam and bubbles. This is implicit in B.S.B. but is not teazed out there and is awaiting the attention of commentators. The ultra-traditional commentators who because they know that everything that is knowledge is in the Vedas will ignore it because it is not explicit and continue on their carousels riding their favourite hobby-horses. - Best Wishes, Michael.
