lists that aren't as well mannered as this one! Bill is one of the calming,

reasonable, and dialectically precise influences on those lists. I think he

will be a welcome addition to advaitin!

As for: "I know him from the neo-advaita nondual lists that aren't as well

mannered as this one!"

....that sounds very encouraging. I had come to consider that the existence of a

well mannered such list might be in the same category as the horns of a hare!

Welcome. I am glad to say as a recently joined member, I have been

struck by the really civil exchanges in this wonderful group. I look

forward to reading the postings everyday.

 

In a lighter vein, when I read the part about the horns of a hare I

was reminded of a shloka I learnt long ago and that's what prompted

this post.

 

labhecca sikatAsu tailamapi yatnatah pIdayan

pibecca mrga trShnikAsu salilam pibAsArtitah|

kadAcitapi paryatan shasha viShANam AsAdayet

natu pratiniviShTa mUrkhajana cittam ArAdhayet||

 

(It may be possible to obtain oil from sand with effort, to quench

one's thirst with water from a mirage or to obtain a hare's horn if

we look around, but it is impossible to satisfy a perverse fool's

mind - my translation is kind of approximate)
