There is saying in Telugu - someone shouted - there goes the pumpkin thief and everybody is checking if there is a pumpkin on their shoulders. The note by moderators is a remainder to everybody to focus the discussion on the Advaita Vedanta as propounded by Shankara. Moderators need to respond when the complaints do come once in a way( otherwise everybody will think they are not doing their job!). They try to step in as a group only when the topics get defocused from the central theme. That is the very purpose of moderation. It is not that they have a big EGO and what to ascertain themselves. Also please note that when an individual moderator discusses he is presenting himself and not the moderators as a group. Let us focus the discussion on the issues rather than on individuals - the very purpose of the discussion is to transcend the individuality. Hari OM! Guest guest
Namaste, >That is the very purpose of moderation. >It is not that they have a big EGO and >what to ascertain themselves. I don't doubt the moderators are sincere and want the best for the list. But I think it is nice to first contact 'deviants' offline and try to explain the situation to them. When a critical message comes online, it can be a bit embarrassing, because we all know who the 'usual suspects' are. By the way, I am speaking on behalf of others. I am not the slightest bit bothered by any messages from the moderators. Hari Om! Benjamin
Guest guest
Namaste Dear Sri Benjamin: Our chief moderator, Sri Sunderji has been explaining the list's position to individual members through private emails. The list also sends monthly reminders to all members on list guidelines and members' responsibilities. Some lists do request members not to post more than 2 messages per day. The moderators do not want to stop the flow of insightful thoughts. I believe that every member should take the discussions very seriously and take responsibility for what they post during a day. The list (and the posting members) can benefit more if everyone of us show some restraint while sending our messages. Why not take more time to contemplate, write our thoughts coherently, pause for few moments and send them a single complete unit. Why not follow the good example set up by our beloved Profvkji and follow him as our role model. Let me repeat the economics principle - 'pareto optimal' which is applied in 'welfare economics.' For posting a message to this list, this principle will be quite useful and applicable: Any post that we send to this list should uplift the spirit of at least one member and at the same time, it should not distress the spirit of even a single member! As a spiritual list, our goal is to uplift our spirit and every member of this list is obligated to fulfill this mission. Warmest regards, Ram Chandran Note: I am happy to say that you (Sri Benjamin) do follow the spirit behind the 'pareto optimal principle.' advaitin, Benjamin <orion777ben> wrote: > > Namaste, > > >That is the very purpose of moderation. > >It is not that they have a big EGO and > >what to ascertain themselves. > > I don't doubt the moderators are sincere and want the best for the list. > > But I think it is nice to first contact 'deviants' offline and try to > explain the situation to them. Guest guest
Namaste Sri Ramji >Note: I am happy to say that you (Sri Benjamin) do >follow the spirit behind the 'pareto optimal principle.' Thank you for this, and I am relieved. I'd just like to say publicly that the only reason I posted that previous message was because I felt that some people's feelings might be a bit embarrassed by public criticism, and I was mostly trying to show support for them in case they indeed felt that way. I was trying to make them feel better by showing publicly that someone cared. I know that some people may feel this way because I used to be rather sensitive about public criticism in my previous jiva incarnation in a previous kalpa over a year ago when I first came on this list. Since then, the wisdom of this list combined with my own meditation has made my own sadhana take off like a rocket, so that this shell called 'Benjamin' means nothing to me anymore and there is no longer anything to get embarrassed about! :-) By the way, we missed you and Shanti at satsangh.
