Namaste Kenji,

A somewhat gratuitous message on my part, but I just want to say that

the prospect of studying some Vedas fills me with enthusiasm. I've

been wanting to go to the 'Source' for quite some time and draw on

that primordial inspiration. Also, adding in the theme of 'maya'

naturally arouses the interest of an 'idealist' like me.

Just let's please not get too heavy on the Sanskrit! :-)

That's Agni up to his tricks again. Can't keep him

away for long with his enthusiasm.

Not yet at least. As will be explained later, archaic

Sanskrit of the Vedas is not identical to the

classical Sanskrit of the Upanishads, so even for the

classical scholars on this site it will be necessary

to use the intuitive faculty when faced by Rgvedic

mantras.

As you will agree, if I were Spanish and wanted to

understand Walt Whitman's poetry it would be better if

I learned some English, better than that, I should

learn American English. There are nuances that cannot

be picked up in translation from archaic Sanskrit into

classical Sanskrit and then into English.

Sanskrit is worth the effort. We all have an intuitive

faculty which can spark insights from the mantras

perceived by the rishis, that is why they gave them to

us.

So please be patient with me later on if I post a few

lines of transliterated Sanskrit. I am no linguist

myself and I am hoping that all of you, dwelling in

the sun of your own intuitive mind, can explain such

English translations of mantras such as 'The calf

lowed'. The English does not get us very far,

Thanks for joining in,

Ken
