Guest guest
Namaste Ken-ji, It sounds to me as though you are saying that in the Vedas there is a mystical poetry associated with the sound that goes deeper than the superficial meaning. I can accept this. Speaking for myself, I must confess that I am weak in the area of poetry appreciation but strong in music appreciation. Perhaps you will be able to bridge this gap for me in the coming month. I must say, though, that I do like listening to some Sanskrit chanting with music accompaniment. I am thinking of this rather famous version of the Gayatri by Times Music http://www.indiaclub.com/shop/SearchResults.asp?ProdStock=2937 and this other CD put out by Times Music and Sri Sri Ravi Shankar called Sacred Chants of Shiva http://tinyurl.com/yrqo5 There is definitely something impressive about the austere sounding Sanskrit chanting! It resonates! I will stay tuned to what you have to say... Hari Om! Benjamin

Good Evening from the UK, Very much so and the challenge in this study is for us to reach through the reflective surface of the words on the screen, as it were, to penetrate...or be penetrated by..... that sound. That's why I hope people will use the audio-links as well as attempt sounding the RgVedic mantras when we reach them. > > I can accept this. By the way, have a search on the net for Guy Beck. He is an American who can really perform Classical Indian music and be appreciated by South Asian audiences. He is not an advaitin and is not happy discussing the topic but he sings beautifully. He spends a lot of time in India but you may be able to catch him in US sometime. Strangely enough, I have transferred the two CDs you mentioned onto MD together with the Mandukya Upanishad and it was playing this morning. Great way to learn Sanskrit; sing-a-long with Times CDs. I will post the next section in a while and you should find that it develops some of your earlier points, thank you for joining in.
