Guest guest
Hi Dennis, >You said: "Anyhow, as usual, most of the confusion >is over definition of terms, such as idealism. >Properly understood, Advaita is as idealistic as the >sky is blue". I don't think you can claim this, strictly >speaking. The mental realm (of ideas) is just as >illusory ultimately as the world of objects. I am answering under a new thread, because I wish to remind all that per Moderator Ramji's recent notice, we should cease and desist from this topic and get on with the month's new topic, Vedas and Maya. He even seemed to imply that we should concentrate solely on this topic. But while I am writing this, I might as well add a brief response to what you said: As I said recently (and many times before), the Upanishads say that (i) Brahman is Consciousness and (ii) Brahman is the Sole Reality. When I do the elementary math on these two mahavakyas, I get a straightforward result that I am pleased to call 'idealism'. As for the mental realm of ideas (or perceptions, feelings, etc.), it is illusory only insofar as it is *objectified*. That objectification is the snake on the rope of consciousness. This sums up all of my wisdom (such as it is) on this topic! On to the Vedas! Hari Om! Benjamin
