Guest guest
Respected Dennisji and others !Members ! May i please add one more ? *Gu*karaschandhakarastu *ru*karastannirodha krith Andhkara vinasitvad gururityabhidhiyate. Sloka No-45 (guru gita) `Gu' is a symbol of the darkness of ignorance. `ru' dispels that darkness. Teacher is thus referred to as a "Guru" because he removes from his disciple's mind the darkness of ignorance. ********************************************************************** PLEASE go to www.sanskrit.bhaarat.com/The_Document_Project/doc_giitaa/gurugita.itx - 44k - Cached Sunderji has prsented the entire Guru gita there ! for ENGLISH translation , ask him for a reference!!! ********************************************************************** Shruthi Smruthi Puraanaam Aalayam Karunaalayam Namaami Bhagavat Paadam Shankaram Loka Shankaram. Meaning: I prostrate before Shanakara Bhagavatpada who is the house of all knowledge, the Shrutis, Smrutis and Puranas (all the Vedic texts). I have not been able to locate an etymological source for the letters gu and ru. Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan published an English translation (by R.G.K.) of Kanchi Mahaswami's Tamil discourses on 'The Guru Tradition'. It would appear that many meanings are given to help the seeker to concentrate on the Guru's glory. Another well-known verse is: dhyAnamUlaM gurormUrtiH The basis for meditation is the Guru's form; pUjAmUlaM guroH padam | for worship, his feet; mantramUlaM gurorvAkyaM for the sacred chant, his words; mokShamUlaM guroH kR^ipA || for deliverance, his Grace. Regards, Sunder
