Guest guest
As you all know, ken-ji has trained us to look at the etymology of words in the last one month and introduced Monier Williams to us. That is what i did on the word-Guru! IN SANSKRIT , the word Guruh means weighty , heavy or grave or venerable . The role of the guru is therefore weighty or important because it is a crucial one for a disciple. but all the slokas quoted by me, professorji, sadaji etc define the word GURU from the slokas in guru gita. Guru removes the darkness (gu) and ru means removes. lOOK AT THE ROOT -gu - means something 'secretive' or hidden - darkness is always hidden? no light!!! so from the root-gu-we have Guha - cave, guhyam- secret etc. Guru reveals the scret knowledge - of the self!!! here is one more verse from guru gita for our archives .... *gu*kàra÷candhakàra÷ca *ru*kàrastannirodhakçt | andhakàravinà÷itvàd gururityabhidhãyate || 40 || "Gu" is darkness. "Ru" is its remover. Because one removes darkness, he is called a "Guru." (40) Aum sri gurave namaha
