Guest guest
First and Formost, most beloved my own NAIR-JI! Let me Extend you a Very Hearty welcome Home ! It was not the same HERE without your 'erudite' presence during CN's presentation. i,for one , missed you and thought how nice it would have been if you had contributed to the series with your well-informed commentary. Btw, i was amused To read that You were starved of 'internet' access In India... the one thing i discovered when i was in india was, even in remotte villages of Tanjore, for every 'Tiffin Shop' there was an internet cafe and an STD booth!! smiles!! About western Philosophy and its relation to Eastern MYSTICISM - I was also thinking why is Chitta taking so much pains to delve into the philosophies of Descartes , Kant, Hegel, when the easy thing for him to do would be to go straight to Shankara's bhasyas.... But Chiita wanted to prepare the reader psychologically as well as spirtually to see where the difference lies beetween the two APPROACHES AND THEN APPRECIATE THE DIFFERENCE! Here, NAIR-JI, If you would permit me , i would like to draw your attention To SWAMI KRISHNANADA'S (DIVINE LIFE SOCIETY)' series on the Ontological argument In PHILOSOPHY .... http:// www.swami-krishnananda.org/disc/disc_07.html - 32k - Cached - Nair-ji writes "The nine essays are nine peaks, flying over which the reader has the option where to land and perch without taxing his wings." And What about the Summit? The concluding and final essay ON 'ISHWARA AND MAYA' THAT WAS MY FAVORITE PART!!! it will be yours too !!! For i know You are a great shakta at heart, outwardly an Advaitin!!! Smiles!! It is strange you should mention Jean Paul Sartre ! Was it not SARTRE who said'Words are loaded pistols' Yes! It is all about words and metaphors .... this is what I HEARD from all the discussions on the 'real and the Unreal' Son of a Barren Woman (Vandhyaa putra) Rope mistaken for a Snake dream state versus waking state WHY NO mention of MITHYA ? Cloth and Yarn, pot and gold etc? We got stuck like a 'bee' on the edge of the Honey JAR instead of going deep into the bottom of the jar and sipping the Honey!! such are the limitations of metaphors!! They are way poiters only ... They are not to be mistaken for the actual siddhanta. Many members critcized chitta saying he deviated from a truthful presentation of the Bhasyas, this is not what shankara meant or this is not this metaphor meant or this is not what happens in the waking state etc.... Well, my point is this ...Chitta presented 'Real and Unreal' as he understod it ! AND Poornamidam is Poornamadah TOO!! Similarly to the Bhakta - the world is real To a jnani -the world is both Real and unreal ... FROM neti neti we come to Vasudevam OM sarvam Iti! You know, Nar-ji, i am not 'intelligent' like you all ! I am A very simple minded person.... But to see God, you do not need 'Physical' eyes .... You only need the 'eyes of the scriptures' (Shastrasya chakshuhu) And finally, let me share with you an important passage from a Sufi saint Hazrat Inayat khan ...on the Law OF RTHM... "The law of rhythm can be considered as governing four actions: right or wrong rhythm in feeling, right or wrong rhythm in thinking, right or wrong rhythm in speaking, and right or wrong rhythm in acting. Not only hate but even love that is not maintained by rhythm will fail; not only an evil thought but even a good one will prove to be disastrous without regard for rhythm. Not only false but even true speech which has no rhythm will prove to be fatal; not only a wrong action but even a right one devoid of rhythm will prove to be out of place. (SNIP) Every plane of man's being is dependent upon the other planes, For instance if the body has lost its rhythm, something goes wrong with the mind; if the mind has lost its rhythm, the body goes wrong; if the heart has lost its rhythm, the mind is puzzled; and if the rhythm of the soul is lost, then all is wrong. " (©2000-2003 JimDonovanMusic.com - - site by Supageni.us) well, my opinion may be biased but i Found the 'Rhythm' in chitta's posts... Love and regards
Guest guest
Namaste dear Adiji. Thanks for your good thoughts. > Btw, i was amused To read that You were starved of 'internet' access > In India... the one thing i discovered when i was in india was, even > in remotte villages of Tanjore, for every 'Tiffin Shop' there was an > internet cafe and an STD booth!! smiles!! [Yes. There are a number of cyber cafes but strangely less in number now than last year. But, I cannot compose my thoughts for Advaitin sitting in there simply because the connections are very slow and the domineering better half is close by shopping or waiting for me to join in at lunch or dinner with quite unreasonable time-limits. Then there are scores of annual commitments to be attended to besides very demanding relatives and friends. The annual vacation, therefore, is a virtual running about. Any visits to cyber cafes ends in replying my daughter abroad who writes profuse mails. Unfortunately, therefore, I couldn't even keep my appointment with our dear Bhaskarji in Bangalore.] > Here, NAIR-JI, If you would permit me , i would like to draw your > attention To SWAMI KRISHNANADA'S (DIVINE LIFE SOCIETY)' series on the > Ontological argument In PHILOSOPHY .... > > http:// www.swami-krishnananda.org/disc/disc_07.html - 32k - Cached - [Thanks. I have read him. Very enlightening. I quoted him before to our Stigji and also to Murthyji yesterday.] > > Nair-ji writes > > "The nine essays are nine peaks, flying over which the reader has > the option where to land and perch without taxing his wings." > > And What about the Summit? > > The concluding and final essay ON 'ISHWARA AND MAYA' > > THAT WAS MY FAVORITE PART!!! > > it will be yours too !!! Let us await CN to reappear with his concluding piece.] > You know, Nar-ji, i am not 'intelligent' like you all ! I am A very > simple minded person.... [That is a miserable understatement!] But to see God, you do not need 'Physical' > eyes .... You only need the 'eyes of the scriptures' (Shastrasya > chakshuhu) [Well said. Physical eyes are important (and bothersome too) only when we delude ourselves to believing that we can't be without them. This is not to underrate their importance in day-to-day matters like my typing this out to you. But, if you really delve into and understand the scriptures, you will know that you keep perceiving through Grace and physical eyes like all the other sense organs, mind intellect etc. are just incidental in that Grace. Just take a look at the blind and yet gifted personages in history. She is the only Eye and decides for you what to see and when. The modalities thereof are not for us to bother much about except for scientific curiosity. Well, then that scientific botheration also is to be understood as Her work. The world then shines in Her splendour and you are at Her Feet in total surrender!] > > > well, my opinion may be biased but i Found the 'Rhythm' in chitta's > posts... [No. You are not biased. I too found the rhythm despite the non- traditional route he has taken.] PraNAms and regards. Madathil Nair
