Oh Nair-ji !

Awesome post!!!

I was simply by the MAYA ( MAGIC) of these words in your post ...

Bhakta-Shakta Nair-ji writes...

( Talking about dogs, here is the case of an avadhUti. glittering

stud on her nose at Kanyakumari temple, I sauntered over to a

ramshackle KAli temple at almost land's end from where

Malayalam kIrtans of Chottanikkara dEvi were emanating. An old

Malayali priest worshipping a fierce idol of KAli MA greeted me.

When I rose after prostrating before the idol and took prasad, my

eyes fell on the photograph of an old woman on the wall and enquired

with the priest who it was. He said she was a still-living

avadhUti, about 235 years old, with whom he had spent about

thirtyfive years. He gave me a photograph of the lady after

performing pUja, which showed her almost naked surrounded by several

dogs. I asked him where I could meet her. He said he didn't know

her present whereabouts but I could make her out anywhere as she is

always surrounded by a herd of dogs. )

Yes! Nair-ji ! This reminds me of another Great AVADHOOTTA Shri

DATTATREYA !

Have you seen the Icon of Lord DATTATREYA?

He is surrounded by Four Dogs ...

What do the Four dogs reprsent?

The four vedas ; They follow the Lord as "hounds of heaven,

watchdogs of the ultimate Truth". They help the Lord in "hunting" and

finding pure souls, wherever they may be born.

and what does the word Avadhoota stand for?

>From the Avadhoota Gita by Shri Dattatreya

The significance of the letter *A*

is that the Avudhuta is free from the bondage of hopes

is pure in the beginning, middle and end

and dwells ever in joy.

The syllable *VA* is indicative of him

by whom all desires have been renounced

whose speech is wholesome

and who dwells in the present.

The syllable *DHU* is a sign of him

whose limbs are grey with dust -

whose mind is purified-

who is free from all diseases -

and who is released from the practice

of concentration and meditation.

The syllable *TA* is significant of him

by whom the thought of Truth has been made steady

who is devoid of all thoughts and efforts

and who is free from ignorance and egoism.

Indeed, Nair-ji- you are so fortunate that you were able to see Devi

in all her forms from her sowmya rupa as Kanyakumari to her fierce

form as KALI and then also see a picture of an avadhooti woman

saint ...old but learned and her naked body representing the 'naked'

truth that the whole universe is covering her with consciousness!!

(digambari)

and i love the concluding verse in your post!

She is both Yarn and cloth !!

She is as 'real' as real can get!!

AS our Parivrajaka Swami Vivekananda says so eloquently,

"She ( the Divine Mother) can show Herself to us in any form at any

moment. The Divine Mother can have form, rupa, and name, nama, or

name without form; and as we worship Her in these various aspects, we

can rise to Pure Being, having neither form nor name.

The sum total of all the cells in an organism is the person; each

soul is like one cell, and the sum of them is God. And beyond that is

the Absolute. The sea calm is the Absolute; the same sea in waves is

the Divine Mother. She is time, space, and causation. Mother is the

same as Brahman and has two natures: the conditioned and the

unconditioned. As the former She is God, nature, and soul. As the

latter She is unknown and unknowable. Out of the Unconditioned came

the trinity: God, nature, and soul -- the triangle of existence. This

is the Visishtadvaita idea. [A reference to so-called qualified

nondualism, one of the streams of the Hindu tradition. Brahman is

That Which alone is, and than Which there is no other. Ed.]

A bit of Mother, a drop, was Krishna; another was Buddha; another was

Christ. The worship of even one spark of Mother in our earthly mother

leads to greatness. Worship Her if you want love and wisdom. "

Yes, Nair-ji, i knew it!! There will not be A DULL MOMENT once you

arrive on the scene. You have certainly met my expectations , if not

exceeded them!!!

and now how are you going to answer this criticism?

Srinivas-ji, another learned member of this satsangha , says there is

no mention of Radha and terefore there is no such person as Radha!!

now, Nair-ji, can YOU COME TO MY RESCUE ON THIS? can there be a

Krishna withoutt Radha? CAN THERE BE A MOON WITHOUT MOONLIGHT? can

there be Sandalwood without fragrance?

thank you so much for a most illuminating post!!

Jaya sri Guru Dattatreya!

Jaya Mahakali!

Jaya gurudeva!

Namaste Adiji.

Thanks for your wonderful interpretation of the word avadhUta.

Well, I now feel I must hurry back to my village in India and pay my

respects to Mani (the neighbourhood dog of my previous post).

Perhaps, one of the vEdAs has already begun giving me company and

protecting me too! I am one-quarter avadhUtA. LOL.

About the alleged criticism by Srinivasji, I find that you have

answered it in your enlightening words. What more can I add, Adiji?

There can't be a Krishna without Radha! There can't be a Devi

without me! (LOL again and again.).

CN asked us to undo the difference. Then, Radha is Krishna, I am the

Devi, and miTyA (ouch!) is Real. And, now if anyone gets at me for

that last statement, it is your responsibility to protect me, Adi

Maaaaaaa!

PraNAms.
