Guest guest
Hello Dennis, Like the Tibetans the Advaitins are wise old birds and most of them know that it is time for them to be saying their prayers lest they be snatched with avidya barely dented. '4 Funerals and a Wedding' is our movie now. Seriously though without regular maintenance we soon fall into disrepair. There is that wonderful word 'rationalization' which denotes the power of the mind to find excellent reasons for doing what is most convenient. One finds that meditation gets below the level at which this continuous process of evasion takes place. For instance if we decide for some reason that someone is unworthy then in meditation several examples of the same fault or worse in us will present itself. We cannot put ourselves in the Presence without, as the Tibetans might put it, navigating those Bardos. In an ashram which I frequented there was large limestone slab set upright like a tombstone with a wrist watch painted on it and the acronymic legend - Watch your Actions, Thoughts, Character and Heart. Best Wishes, Michael.
