Guest guest
dear all! May i please introduce to this audience a really beautiful Soul. an American lady who discovered 'Advaita' all by herself ... Peace Pilgrim. >From 1953 to 1981 a silver haired woman calling herself only "Peace Pilgrim" walked more than 25,000 miles on a personal pilgrimage for peace. She vowed to "remain a wanderer until mankind has learned the way of peace, walking until given shelter and fasting until given food." In the course of her 28 year pilgrimage she touched the hearts, minds, and lives of thousands of individuals all across North America. Her message was both simple and profound. It continues to inspire people all over the world: "This is the way of peace: overcome evil with good, and falsehood with truth, and hatred with love." Here is an inspiring quotation from this remarkable woman "There is a spark of good in everybody, no matter how deeply it may be buried. It is the real you. When I say 'you' what am I really thinking of? Am I thinking of the clay garment, the body? No, that's not the real you. Am I thinking of the self-centered nature? No, that's not the real you. The real you is that divine spark, some call this the God-centered nature, others the divine nature and the Kingdom of God within. Hindus know it as nirvana; Buddhists refer to it as the awakened soul; the Quakers see it as the Inner Light. In other places it is known as the Christ in you, the Christ Consciousness, the hope of glory, or the indwelling spirit. Even some psychologists have a name for it, the superconscious. But it is all the same thing dressed in different words. The important thing to remember is that it dwells within you!" to read more about the Peace Pilgrim, go to http://www.peacepilgrim.net/ ps i thank my beloved frien *Ben* ( an advaitin member who is conspicuous by his absence these days - ben, where are you? ) for posting this wonderful link in our group sadhana_shakti!!! The point is .... a true advaitin deos not have a Hindu or non-hindu soul! He/she just has the pure 'advaitic' spirit - Divyatma Swarupa!!! love and regards

Hi Friends, I still check here from time to time. But when it comes to spirituality, or any other topic, my head is very strong. I prefer to do my own reading and thinking, rather than follow tradition. That has advantages and disadvantages. Fortunately, Hinduism understands that different people have different paths. I did learn a lot here. I have become very enthusiastic about the blog concept. It's like a diary or scrapbook where you can post thoughts, links, even whole articles. It is easier than a website, and nobody argues with you (though people can comment and you can erase comments you don't like). Whoever cares what you think can visit your blog, and you can visit others. It's total freedom. Those on this list who love to read, think and write should definitely check it out. It's good for your own mind and spirit, even if nobody reads you. Unfortunately, most blogs are garbage, but I'm hunting down the good ones, using Google. Out of modesty, I won't mention where my blog is, but if you care you can find it. Also, I went over to the Indian Civilization list, where there is more freedom to bash on intolerant religions. I feel a strong urge to do that sometimes... :-) Hari Om Benjamin
Guest guest
welcome back, ben- ji! Guest guest
Dear Adishakthi, Thanks for a truly inspiring and uplifting message! How come we never heard of her before? If such wonderful people dwell upon this earth, why should we lose hope? The remarkable thing is that such transformation can come without formal training or religious practices. mama vartmaanuvartante manuShyaah paartha sarvashah. BG 3.23 (O Arjuna! But again it is alwasy pleasurable to recaptulate her simple teaching which echos the core of advaita vedanta. Guest guest
yes! Ben-ji just told me via email that YOU had mentioned about Peace Pilgrim in one of the messages in the list. i was not aware of that ! anyway, the reason why i brought up the name of Peace Pilgrim is there was a mention of an American Lady by mahadevadvaita in another context and i thought this was an appropriate occasion to recall the words of this great Thinker and Reformer ! and i just wanted to tell everyone that the Beauty Of adwaitha philosophy is, it transcends Race, color, religion etc etc.... here is another favorite quote from mine from this WOMAN OF COURAGE and WISDOM ! "Religion is not an end in itself. One's union with God is the ultimate goal. There are so many religions because immature people tend to emphasize trivial differences instead of important likenesses. Differences between faiths lie in creeds and rituals rather than in religious principles.... .....If you are guided toward a faith, use it as a stepping stone to God, not as a barrier between yourself and God's other children or as a tower to hold you aloft from others. If you are not guided toward a faith (or even if you are) seek God in the silence - seek within." Sadaji, i concede the Honor to you ! you are the ONE OF THE ON CAPTAINS Of The ADWAITA SHIP , i am just part of the Crew!!! smiles!!! Love and regards Sorry- i have exceeded the quota for posting today ! i luv the way you address me as aDitiji - makes me feel like a vedic Goddess!! --> > > > Aditiji - there were many posts on Peace Pilgrim in this list.
