Guest guest
hi dearest advaitins ! On the last Thursday of the month of November, Americans will be celeberating Thanksgiving Day ! On this day, Americans rejoice and Thank God for all the bounties and prepare a traditional Thanksgiving feast including STUFFED TURKEY, BOILED CORN, GREEN BEANS, MASHED POTATOES, BAKED SWEET POTATOES, PUNMPKIN PIE ETC... Yes! dear hearts, we have everything to be thankful for ! But, in the coming holiday season, think about all the Hungry millions all over the world who are going to bed COLD AND HUNGRY! Please do not tell me that in ADVAITA, KARMA YOGA means something altogether different. Karma yoga means - sevice to others without expecting rewards- this is the definition i love and i cherish. AS our Mahatma gandhiji said "There is enough for everyone's need, but not for everyone's greed." and it was the same Mahatma Gandhiji who also said that if all Hindu scriptures happened all of a sudden to be reduced to ashes and if only the first verse of the Is.a Upanishad were left in the memory of the Hindus, Hinduism will live forever. and pray, what is the first verse of the is.a upanishad "iSAvAsyam idam sarvam" when translated the first verse reads like this ... All this is inhabited by God, whatever that moves here in this moving universe. Therefore by renunciation alone enjoy all things. Do not covet what belongs to others. and folks, Deepavali is on the 11th followed by skanda shasti. Thanksgiving holiday is on the last thursday of this month followed by xmas .The holy month of Ramadhan will soon come to and end ; fasting will be followed by feasting - muslims celeberate Eid ! YES! Dear-hearts, time to share your wealth and bounty with the less fortunate all over the world! There are many 'charities' on the web... make your contributions - just a Dollar will feed one hungry mouth in India, Bangladesh etc at least for one day!! i fast because i think it is 'kosher' to do so! but those millions in the streets of Bombay, calcutta etc 'fast' out of necessity - not out of choice! i would like to leave you all with this memorable quote from Mother Teresa, ( a christian advaitin) "At the end of life we will not be judged by how many diplomas we have received, how much money we have made, how many great things we have done. We will be judged by 'I was hungry and you gave me to eat, I was naked and you clothed me, I was homeless and you took me in.' Hungry not only for bread -- but hungry for love. Naked not only for clothing -- but naked for human dignity and respect. Homeless not only for want of a room of bricks -- but homeless because of rejection. " and guys, do not worry about DOERSHIP!JUST DO IT! THIS IS THE SPIRIT OF THE SEASON! LOVE AND REGARDS
